In the module on Positivity in the App, Suncica talks about how we create our own truths, and believe in them. She is talking about the way in which we establish our own comfort zones: we create them from nothing, and then we believe in them as safe havens wherein we can operate.

We create comfort zones because we crave certainty and understanding, stability. This is entirely understandable — but sometimes this desire can leave us stagnant, unable to change: we believe that how we are, is how we always will be. We believe in the truth of how we are now.

There is an old tale about a king who grew tired of the dishonesty of his subjects. He erected a gallows outside the gates of his major city and posted guards: everyone who wished to enter the city had to be truthful with the captain of the guards, or be hanged.

Nasrudin, the Sufi holy fool, stepped up the the gate one morning. The guard asked him where he was going, admonishing him, ‘Tell the truth! If you do not, you will be hanged!’

Nasrudin said, ‘I am going to be hanged.’

The guard frowned, taken aback. ‘No, you’re not.’

‘Ah,’ said Nasrudin, ‘Then I have told a lie, and you must hang me.’

The guard thought for a moment. ‘But, then what you said would be true.’

Nasrudin smiled. ‘But it will be your truth,’ he said.

Truth is not set in stone, truth depends upon perspective. And the only true perspective you can take on truth is just that — it depends upon perspective.

So, when you wish to think about yourself, about how you are, about your attitudes, your state of mind — even your relationships — it is important to be aware of your perspective. And to be aware that you can change your perspective, and so you can change the way you are: you can change your truth.

And this change in perspective is what underlies so much of the material in the modules. Change is possible.
